May 24, 2009 (San Francisco North Bay, CA) — Celebrating 31 years of “Harmony From the Roots Up”—and continuing its focus on progressive ideals, community activism, and uplifting music—the producers of the Harmony Festival (http://www.harmonyfestival.com) are excited to announce a partnership with the Bay Area’s Fair Trade organic tea company, NUMI ORGANIC TEA (www.numitea.com) and introduce the new Tea for Two gathering space featuring eclectic and spontaneous musical line-up and delicious and sustainable edibles from Sonoma caterer Isa Jacoby and Straus, Guayaki and Mahatma Honey. The Tea for Two stage, sponsored by Harlem-based Jazz label Motema Music and Anon Salon, is a musical and culinary oasis, a calm at the center of the storm where you will find solo and small ensemble acoustic performances by fine singer songwriters and top notch jazz, world, folk and classical artists. Acts include the world-premier of a new jazz duo featuring world-renowned bassist/composer Charnett Moffett with guitarist/vocalist/composer Jana Herzen. Also anticipated is the Charnett Moffett Solo Bass Experience (you have to see it to believe it), including Israeli clarinetist Oran Etkin and friends performing music from his highly acclaimed debut release, Kelenia, a unique blend of jazz/klezmer and Malian griot music. Anything can happen on the Tea for Two stage, where favorites from the main stages will be invited to throw down their own acoustic jams—don’t miss the special appearance by the Festival CEO on Native American Flute! —to supplement your morning, afternoon or late night libations. People who celebrate the “tea lifestyle”—and those who value tea as the heart and soul of the Harmony Festival—are in for a treat when they discover what is destined to become the gathering place for Festival attendees seeking solitude or community, or just to take a brief respite from all of the sensual stimulation that Harmony has to offer. Located outside of the Showcase Café building, the menu promises an array of global snacks prepared with local ingredients including vegan rainbow nori rolls, Bali rice balls, Spring Almost Summer rolls, sweet potato samosas, wraps, quesadillas, blessed brownies, and cookies fresh out of the oven, all prepared lovingly and by hand by one of Sonoma’s favorite caterers, chef Isa Jacoby. Tea for Two is open during Harmony Festival, 9am-2am June 12-14. A variety of teas will be offered in Tea for Two, including Green, Black, Oolong, Bergamot (Earl Grey), Berry Black Tea, Chai, Yerba Mate, African Herbals, Honeybush, Rooibos, Desert Lime, Moroccan Mint, Chamomile Lemon Myrtle, and a favorite: Numi’s Flowering Tea, handsewn tea leaves “that blossom open when steeped to community”. Featured Tea for Two sponsor Numi was founded by world-traveling siblings Ahmed and Reem Rahim in a 750 square foot apartment in Oakland in 1999. In the past decade, Numi has grown into a company whose hallmark is super-premium, organic and Fair Trade Certified, full leaf teas and herbal teasans. Numi is proud to have introduced the world’s first organic Puerh tea, as well as pioneered the introduction of exotic herbs such as Rooibos, Lemon Myrtle, Honeybush and Dry Desert Lime that were popular in Europe but were completely unknown in the United States. Numi's vision is to inspire well-being of mind, body and spirit through the simple art of tea. Numi aspires to be environmentally responsible and globally sustainable by using recyclable and biodegradable packaging and sustainable bamboo in their merchandising. It is dedicated to quality, sustainable values and a commitment to community, values and vision shared by the Harmony Festival community as well.
