Vince Wilburn, Miles’ nephew, drummer and co-director of The Miles Davis Foundation will be on hand Saturday for a special Tribute to Miles featuring DJ’s & VJ’s keeping the music alive before and after each set, with mind-altering music and heady visuals inspired by the art & music of Miles Davis. Closing the Friday night show will be ALO (Anima Liberation Orchestra) & friends featuring Steve Kimock and special guests. ALO combines superb musicianship and the ability to kick out the improvised jams, supported by crafty songwriting skills and irreverent uplifting tunes that always seem to attract a distinguished roster of musical accomplices—you just never know who may drop in! Legba’s Light features Mike Clark (drums), Airto Moreira (percussion), Mike Stern (guitar), Charnette Moffett (bass), Eddie Hendserson (trumpet), Azar Lawrence (sax), Brian Jackson (keys), Vince Wilburn (drums), Kentyah Fraser (turntables), and Killah Priest (rap/spoken word). This distinguished group of musicians comprised of Miles’ band alumni, jazz legends and contemporary musical luminaries will be collaborating in celebration of the creative spirit of the revolutionary trumpeter, composer, and the most celebrated figure in contemporary jazz history. Taking musical cues and creative attitude from such highly influential albums as Bitches Brew, In A Silent Way, On the Corner, Pangea, Dark Magus, the group will be performing original music combining elements of Hip-hop, funk, rock, and jazz fusion and the avant-garde, intermixed with new arrangements and contemporary re-interpretations of material from Miles’ pioneering late 60’s & early 70’s electric-era work, creating hybrid musical style that honors the spirit of Miles Davis, while sounding fresh and “kinda’ new” - just the way Miles would of liked it!
