2009 Eco Cup Musicians

Bad BrainsBAD BRAINS (6:45 pm Sunday) has long been considered one of the most important bands in the formation of punk music. This all-black rock band became pioneers of punk's hardcore fringe, influencing nearly every subsequent hardcore outfit. They made several appearances at the infamous CBGB’s just before the legendary dive of New York punk history closed in October 2006. The band released the new Build A Nation with the production help of the Beastie Boys Adam Yauch in the summer of 2007. First founded as a jazz-fusion ensemble in 1975, in 1977 the band’s obsessions with Black Sabbath, reggae, pop, funk, and punk inspired them to change their name to "Bad Brains” (“bad” as in "powerful"). Catch them at Harmony before they head to Europe in July! http://www.myspace.com/badbrains

Dead KennedysDEAD KENNEDYS (7:00 pm Friday) This legendary band played their first act in 1978 when their lyrical themes were mainly political, attacking the Government under the control of Ronald Reagan, the Klan, big business, and big brother. Not much has changed since then, except a few names. Don’t miss Dead Kennedys, featuring East Bay Ray, Klaus Flouride, D. H. Peligro with Skip (from the Wynnona Riders), in this rare one-time performance on our new Eco Cup stage. http://www.myspace.com/deadkennedys

RebelutionREBELUTION (3:30 pm Saturday) This Santa Barbara-based reggae quartet is on a mission to spread positivity, unity and awareness to any and all who will listen, and, lately, it seems as if the number of interested parties may never stop growing. Originally formed in 2004, the group consists of vocalist/guitarist Eric Rachmany, keyboardist Rory Carey, drummer Wesley Finley, and bassist Marley D. Williams. Not only can they dance the night away, but they can also leave with a little food for thought —The music is optimistic, inspiring and engaging, leaving you with the sense that we do have the power to make this world a better place, and we have to do it together. As Rachmany explains, “I think everybody who really feels our music also feels like they are part of a community, and that is something really special to us.” http://www.myspace.com/rebelution

PepperPEPPER (7:00 pm Saturday) Originally hailing from Kona, Hawaii, Pepper's music is a melodic and accessible blend of alternative pop/rock, punk, and reggae. Pepper's sound could be described as the Police meets Steel Pulse meets punk-pop but Pepper has a much rawer, rugged edge. Pepper has toured with the likes of 311 and Snoop Dogg and began their own record label, LAW Records. A live DVD was issued in early 2006 with the studio full-length No Shame and a subsequent tour alongside Slightly Stoopid. http://www.myspace.com/pepperlive

AMERICAN DRAG (12:00 noon Saturday) is a gang of unapologetic rockers, a kicking live band from the San Francisco Bay Area with songs to match. The band drops classic rock attitude on a modern sound, electrifying audiences with tried and true song craft and fearless performances since forming the group in 2004. The songs on their sophomore album “Out of the Sky” (2009) journey through the human spirit’s struggle in Americana — the “American Dream” turned “American Drag.” Featured bandmates include Will Evankovich (singer), Joseph Shaughnessy (bass), and Monroe Grisman (rhythm guitarist/backing vocalist). http://www.myspace.com/americandrag

THE WHISKEY THIEVES (2:00 pm Friday) formed in the spring of 2006 as a powerhouse R&R quartet and have since shared the stage with The Doobie Brothers, Taj Majal, Jackie Greene, Tommy Castro, Los Lobos, Robert Cray and many more. http://www.myspace.com/thewhiskeythieves

EGYPT CENTRAL (4:30 pm Friday) was formed by lead singer John T. Falls in 2001. This hard rock band is based in Memphis and named after one of its roads. http://www.myspace.com/egyptcentral88

TALL BLACK GIRLS (2:00 pm Sunday) is an all-girl rock band from NYC featuring Jen, Julie, and Nurse Kelly Black & Kate Werner. http://www.myspace.com/tallblackgirlsnyc

ZEPPARELLA (1:30 pm Saturday) is not a tribute band. No wigs, no backing tracks. It is a celebration of some of the greatest music ever written, by women who love it as musicians and as fans. http://www.myspace.com/zepparella

HIGHTOWER (5:00 pm Sunday) is three friends who like to play music and skate together: Shane In Blood (drums), Dave Fallis (bass), Jake Japanese (guitar). http://www.myspace.com/hightower
